Sowing, spacing, cultivation, succession cropping, and supports were key historical concepts. The modern approach begins with current local conditions.
Arizona Today
Make a simple record of planting and harvest dates, weather, variety, and plant performance. Schedule a next crop only after considering the outgoing crop, available space, water needs, soil cover, and the next expected temperature window. Trellising and other supports can make vertical space useful when they are reachable and maintainable.
Use limited space deliberately
Choose sowing and spacing methods that leave each crop enough room to mature. Use crop rotation where it fits the garden’s scale and records, keep paths defined, protect soil cover where practical, and avoid treating repeated disturbance as a requirement.
