Soil, Compost and Vermicompost

Soil work is the foundation beneath water management and plant growth.

In Arizona, drainage, soil structure, organic matter, moisture retention, mulch, and local salts or alkalinity all deserve attention before broad claims are made about a soil amendment or product.

Arizona Today

Well-drained soil and carefully managed organic matter can improve growing conditions and water management. Mulch can reduce evaporation. Raised beds may be appropriate where native soil is unsuitable. Soil testing and observation should come before product or agronomic claims, particularly where salts or alkalinity may be relevant.
